Forget giving your mom a bouquet of flowers this year for Mother’s Day (again). Give the gift of garden inspiration instead! Whether she’s a bonafide garden guru or just discovering her green thumb, show your appreciation for her with an expertly-picked gardening gift that will bring her joy all year round. Here are some of my favorite gardening products that I know will make the perfect gift for your plant-minded mom.

“Adventures in Eden” Book

This is by far one of the most inspiring gardening books that I own. A photographic exploration of some of the most incredible private gardens across Europe, “Adventures in Eden” by Carolyn Mullet is a visual feast of perennial garden inspiration. These gardens might be across the pond, but there is still plenty to glean from them for use in our North Texas gardens like exciting plant combinations, layout ideas, and creative uses of color.

Seed Shopping Spree

Treat mom to a seed shopping free-for-all with a gift certificate from my any one of my favorite seed companies. I’d definitely pick seed shopping over getting a pedicure as my idea of the perfect way to spend a day. Any gardening enthusiast would be thrilled to get some money to spend on seeds from Botanical Interests, Johnny’s Seeds, Renee’s Seeds, or Swallowtail Seeds. These are the sources I rely on year after year for plant varieties that are as reliable as they are beautiful and delicious.

Hori Hori Soil Knife

The hori hori knife is the Swiss Army knife of garden tools. It’s a Japanese gardening tool that I absolutely cannot live without. I use it for transplanting seedlings into the garden, slicing open bags of compost, and digging out stubborn weeds. My favorite is the A.M. Leonard Hori Hori knife. It has a bright orange handle so I can easily find it in the garden when I misplace it. (Which is often!!)

Felco Pruners

Good quality pruners make an excellent gift for a gardener because it’s something that they might not splurge on themselves. For a quality pair that will last a long time, I rely on Felco pruners and snips. They’re trusted by professionals and enthusiasts alike for their durability and ease of use.

Gorilla Cart

Hauling heavy bags of mulch, compost and potting soil from the car to the garden is no fun at all. Pull carts make this task much more tolerable. Gorilla Carts are heavy-duty pull carts that are super easy to maneuver through the garden and feature a dumping mechanism for easy clean out or taking things to the compost pile. It’s a real back-saver.

Waterproof Speaker

I love listening to podcasts while I’m gardening, but I hate getting my earbuds dirty, and I can’t hear if someone is calling my name or trying to get my attention. Bluetooth speakers are the solution. I’ve trusted Bose for years. The sound quality is superb, and the products last forever, no matter how much I abuse them. The Bose SoundLink Flex speaker is completely waterproof — it even floats! —and includes a microphone for taking phone calls while your hands are in the dirt.

Malin + Goetz Hand & Body Wash

Nothing feels better than getting clean after a muddy session in the garden, right? I like to treat myself with luxurious hand soaps as a reward for all my hard work outdoors. Malin + Goetz is one of my favorite brands. I’m especially fond of the Bergamot scent.
